How to sign on for your show

Information for the Staff for broadcasting at K-IRB:
     Set Shoutcast Up
     Connect For Your Show
     Promote Your Show

Set Shoutcast Up

Here are the Shoutcast settings you need for both channels.

In Winamp, right click on the player window, and go to Select Plugin, then select the DSP/Effect plug-in window, and highlight ‘Nullsoft Shoutcast Source’.

This will set up the server.

* Connection Tab Address - k-irb.com
* Port - 9000
* Password - [PASSWORD]
* Encoder - 2
* Yellowpages Tab Make this server public - tick this box
* Description - Your name or your show’s name
* URL - http://www.k-irb.com

Encoder Tab - Encoder 2
* Encoder Type - MP3 Encoder
* Encoder Settings - 64kbps, 22.050 kHz, Stereo

Connect For Your Show

Before you connect for your show, you need to disconnect the current feed. The username is admin and the password is the same Shoutcast password as above.
    Kick the feed.
    Now connect. If you’re not connected, kick the high-band feed again.

    Now play your music!

Username: admin
Password: [PASSWORD]

Once you get both feeds dropped, you can start your Shoutcast Encoder and then play your first song, but you have about 10 seconds to start your feed. Otherwise the automatic server will reconnect and you’ll have to start all over again.

Be courteous to other show hosts: If you are going on the air after another live show is on, make sure you let them know you are ready to go on the air. If you can’t get in touch with them, let John know so if anyone complains, he’ll know the whole story.

Common Courtesy

If you are scheduled to go on the air from 8pm until 10pm then make sure you are off the air at 10pm, not at 10:10pm… ESPECIALLY if there is a DJ on after you.

Any Questions?

John has answers. AIM him if you need to talk. Otherwise, follow the schedule below to get in touch with the hosts that are on the air before you.

Promote Your Show

One of the things we want to do is help promote your radio show.

Banner Ad
If you have a 468×60 sized banner, we’ll put it up free of charge (offer good for current K-IRB DJs only) once we get a new banner rotation thing for the site. Don’t have a banner ad? Go to Ad Designer or MyBannerMaker and make one for free.

Once we get a couple together (and a banner ad program that isn’t too ugly looking), we’ll be adding them to K-IRB to help promote your show.

Radio Liners
Also, we would like for you (if you haven’t already) to make a short liner for us to play. It would go something like this:

This is YOURNAME from YOURSHOW and you’re listening to K IRB.

Do not add music to this liner. Make sure you record it as a WAV or MP3 file, and send it to John. We’ll put them on the air to play throughout the day on Dead End Radio and share them with the other DJs so they can play them, too.

Your Show Promo
You can also make a promo for your show, telling people to listen in, what kind of music you play, and promote your show’s website (if you have one). Make sure it’s at least 20 seconds long, but no longer than 40 seconds. Be sure to tell people what time you’re on the air, the name of your show, and that they are listening to K-IRB.

Here is an example. By no means do you have to stick with this script.

This is YOURNAME from YOURSHOW reminding you to listen to my show every SHOWDAY between SHOWTIMES. We’ll play STYLE OF MUSIC YOU WILL PLAY, plus we’ll also OTHER SHOW ELEMENTS (like requests). So tune in to YOURSHOW with me, YOURNAME, every SHOWDAY from SHOWTIMES on K IRB.

You may put music under this if you want, but make sure we can hear you if you decide to do this. Make sure you record it as a WAV or MP3 file, and send it to John. We’ll put them on the air to play throughout the day on Dead End Radio and share them with the other DJs so they can play them, too.
